I didn't want channeled info but something Christian Bible based. I was actually looking for information on the angel some call Metatron as what's on the internet is often channeled and one channel often seems to contradict what another has written on this angel. There wasn't much about this angel in this book, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot available on Metatron in accepted Jewish scripture so I didn't expect much anyway. I enjoyed this book overall. Billy Graham spent his life around the Bible so I figured he would write something that based on his understanding of what was actually written in the Bible. Graham writes honestly he has never seen an angel himself, but he believes in them because they are in the Bible. This book is written in an easy to read and relate to style. Graham reminds us that angels are not all fluffy and sweet as they are often portrayed in television shows and new age style books. Overall it seemed a fair and balanced representation for the layman and I appreciated it's balanced portrayal of the angels.

When I had questions about the nature and role of angels, my search led me to this book, written by none other than Billy Graham. The book covers many of the angels in the Bible. Originally written and published in the 1970s, when interest in demons and exorcisms and occult practices seemed to proliferate as never before, Dr. Graham wrote in response to his own need. Finding few books on the subject or angels both good and bad, he undertook the task of writing one.He delves thoroughly enough in this short work. Yes, each chapter is like a mini-sermon with an altar call at the end, and some may find this off-putting. However, this is the ministry of Billy Graham, unwilling that any should perish . What a wonderful, uplifting way to start my New Year's reading!

His is a thorough accurate , interesting over all reference book on Angels . It included some experiences of folks who have seen an angel or have been ministered to by Angel or angels . Having seen an angel myself , I can assure readers this is a real experience. The angel I saw did not have wings , was at least 7 feet tall , what's closed in white , and displayed a brilliance that appeared to me as bright light and a very penetrating facial expression. Awe-inspiring.

This book allowed me to find my way back to God. My interest and fascination with theology and specifically angels, brought me to this book. This book is an excellent reference of the most pertinent Scripture that allowed me to come back to my Christian faith and ask God for forgiveness of my sins against Him. A posthumous thank you to Reverend Graham for his dedication to our Lord and to helping those like me, find their way back to Him.

Except for the Bible, I love this book better than any one I've ever read. It has Bible verses throughout it, so you can read the scriptures for yourself , to show what the Bible says about angels. You will feel the presence of God and his protective angels, as you ready it. You will be overtaken with joy and thankfulness to God for His amazing love and grace. After a couple of friends read my book, it is going into my collection of books to leave to one of our heirs. If you have never thought about or believed in angels, I encourage you to buy this book. I promise you that you will not be sorry. When I first got it, I read 48 pages before I could lay it down. I truly believe you will love it.

I am 80 years old and I thank God I am continuing to learn through the Bible and Bible study. I hope I am able to continue to learn and work for Jesus until I leave this world to be with my Lord and Savior.

Why do I love thee? Let me Count the ways:** well researched. I checked the info on the heroines I know well, to see if I can trust the info I am not already an expert on, and it's well done. With mythology, there is always various versions and room for lots of interpretation, but, still, this is well-researched.** well written. A compendium can get tedious if not well written. You can use this to research a goddess now and then. OR you can read cover to cover, like I did. [I was doing research for a book I just finished.]** a good mix of the European stuff you know and are primarily interested in, and Asian, Arctic, African and other regions whose personalities you should be learning more about. I love the African section. OK so not as large as I had hoped, but I get it, most buyers will be looking for Celtic fantasy and role-playing info.So glad I bought it!! You will be too.

This is exactly what I needed as a reference book. Keep in mind; this is a reference book of various goddesses and not mythology although mythological goddesses and heroines are included in it. It doesn't cover every goddess there ever was, but it does do a fair job. It also cross references goddesses and heroines, who may be known by different names.

I love this book! Very well rounded and informative. Goes a bit deeper than your "fluff" Goddess books. I highly recommend having this in your collection if you are inclined to understanding women's mysteries from many different cultures.

I got this so I could look things up when I don't have the physical book at hand. Navigation is a pain in the podex, but it is useful and I look someone up at least once a week.

We live in Flemington and there are so many hikes near our house!! Don't get dissuaded since the title says 'Philadelphia'. Great details and parking instructions. We are working our way through the book and have really enjoyed exploring areas we didn't know about even though we have lived in the area all our lives.

I am a new hiker looking for local and nearby hikes. This book offers exact directions including GPS parameters. Information such as dog friendly, time of year to hike for best scenery and wildlife, topography, mileage/kilometer info., and landmarks are clearly expressed and available to me for planning purposes. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in locating interesting hikes in the specified area.

Updated Edition: Thomas L. Friedman is not so much a futurist, which he is sometimes called, as a presentist. His aim in The World Is Flat, as in his earlier, influential Lexus and the Olive Tree, is not to give you a speculative preview of the wonders that are sure to come in your lifetime, but rather to get you caught up on the wonders that are already here. The world isn't going to be flat, it is flat, which gives Friedman's breathless narrative much of its urgency, and which also saves it from the Epcot-style polyester sheen that futurists--the optimistic ones at least--are inevitably prey to. What Friedman means by "flat" is "connected": the lowering of trade and political barriers and the exponential technical advances of the digital revolution that have made it possible to do business, or almost anything else, instantaneously with billions of other people across the planet. This in itself should not be news to anyone. But the news that Friedman has to deliver is that just when we stopped paying attention to these developments--when the dot-com bust turned interest away from the business and technology pages and when 9/11 and the Iraq War turned all eyes toward the Middle East--is when they actually began to accelerate. Globalization 3.0, as he calls it, is driven not by major corporations or giant trade organizations like the World Bank, but by individuals: desktop freelancers and innovative startups all over the world (but especially in India and China) who can compete--and win--not just for low-wage manufacturing and information labor but, increasingly, for the highest-end research and design work as well. (He doesn't forget the "mutant supply chains" like Al-Qaeda that let the small act big in more destructive ways.) Friedman has embraced this flat world in his own work, continuing to report on his story after his book's release and releasing an unprecedented hardcover update of the book a year later with 100 pages of revised and expanded material. What's changed in a year? Some of the sections that opened eyes in the first edition--on China and India, for example, and the global supply chain--are largely unaltered. Instead, Friedman has more to say about what he now calls "uploading," the direct-from-the-bottom creation of culture, knowledge, and innovation through blogging, podcasts, and open-source software. And in response to the pleas of many of his readers about how to survive the new flat world, he makes specific recommendations about the technical and creative training he thinks will be required to compete in the "New Middle" class. And that's it.The World is Flat seethes from the excess of demagogy, which makes the author a great candidate for a politician. The content of the book is painfully outdated. Author instead focus on the mechanisms that shape the beginning of the twenty-first century, persistently presents case studies.Conclusion; if someone wants to scramble through for more than 600 pages to find some valuable comments and bon mots, then I wish you good luck and a lot of patience.

No longer do we have to drive from car lot to car lot to find a great deal on a used car. And no longer do you have to throw on a suit and walk up and down an office building looking for a job. Established companies have learned to adapt and quickly.The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman is a very interesting read on the changing times. The latest edition of this book was written in 2007, right before the start of the great recession, so it would be interesting to see if Friedman’s thoughts were changed by this major market malfunction.This book is good but a little long. Friedman includes a lot of interviews and anecdotes, however his stories do not have the power or sharpness of Malcolm Gladwell or the Freakonomics authors.

When this book came out in 2005, it provided many Americans with their first exposure to globalization. It is ironic that the USA has been the dominant player in world affairs since World War II -- political, economic, social, cultural -- but a large portion of the American population was unaware of the centrality of its global role until very recently. Friedman's work has helped them to get a stronger grasp of the forces of globalization, first in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, then in The World Is Flat.The idea of a world-beyond-nation-state was articulated ten years before Friedman by Kenichi Ohmae in his best-selling 1995 book, The Borderless World. In a sense, Friedman's work can be viewed as an update of Ohmae's because of its focus on recent technological advances in telecommunications, the Internet, computers, and transportation -- technologies that were relatively underdeveloped in 1995.One problem with Friedman's book is captured in its subtitle: "A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century." Considering that the book was written at the outset of the twenty-first century, this is a pretty arrogant statement. It implies a measure of omniscience in Friedman's outlook. He is predicting how the world will work in the twenty-first century. It turns out that his predictions are largely wrong, because even as the first edition of The World is Flat was coming off the press, the groundwork was being laid for the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression. Even as Friedman was praising Carly Fiorina as the "poster girl" of flat world managers, she was on her way out as CEO of Hewlett-Packard. The economic crisis of 2007-2009 demonstrated that as soon as societies face economic downturns, they circle the wagons and reject the openness that Friedman portrays as inevitable. It is interesting that since writing The World Is Flat, Friedman has turned his attention to other arenas: the need for a green revolution (2008) and the decline of the USA (2011). He isn't preaching the virtues of globalization.In order to understand what Friedman has done with The Lexus and the Olive Tree and The World is Flat, it is important to recall he is a journalist. He is NOT a sociologist or economist. While he supplies an abundance of advice on how to run a business or government in our brave new world, he himself has never been a businessman or policy maker. As a journalist, he has stood on the sidelines, picked the brains of the real players, then made a fantastic living by offering expert insights and advice.Having been pretty strong in my criticism of Friedman, I still give his book a score of 3,because in his work -- as a journalist -- he has opened the eyes of thousands of people to important forces that extend beyond what average citizens are aware of.
