Great story of Josh and Delaney. Lots of humor among the heartbreak of loss and children illnesses. So glad they got their HEA.

Delaney and Jason were both so likeable, I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much. Maggie McGinnis writes the most wonderful books, I absolutely love each and every one.

The SkinnyDelaney Blair is a financial analyst in the hospital her cardio-thoracic surgeon father works for, providing a lot of speculation about how she got her job. But the truth is that Mercy has a special – and painful – place in her heart. It is the hospital that provided most of the care for her sickly brother when they were kids. It’s the reason she can’t step foot on the pediatric floor without going into panic, and the reason she has written numerous grants over the years to gain them more funding. But now she’s got to figure out how to deal with it because the CFO has tasked her with cutting the the pediatrics budget within thirty days. She must face interim head of the pediatrics department, Dr. Josh Mackenzie, head-on on the matter, and quickly discovers that pediatrics is working on an already underfunded budget. The PlayersDelaney Blair – a thirty-something financial analyst at Mercy HospitalJosh Mackenzie – the interim head of the pediatrics department, he also co-owns and manages a nonprofit (Avery’s House) to help the families of the children with extended stays at the hospitalMegan – Delainey’s assistant and closest friendKevin – Delainey’s counterpart and competition for CFO, he uses his fraternity-row, country club style of communicating to hide his incompetenceMillie – the pediatric head nurse, she is the real boss of the floorJosie and Ethan – Josh’s childhood friends, married to one another, they live at and co-own Avery’s House with JoshMolly – Josh’s childhood friend, she works at Bellini’sThe Quote“You would’t be crashing. Half of Echo Lake will be there. It’s going to be loud and crazy and Italian, in all the best ways. You’ll be family by the time you finish your first drink.”She smiled. “Is that how Bellinis parties work?”“All the ones I’ve seen.”The Highs and Lows--Plot. The plot is contemporary and realistic. Given the rural area they live in, the hospital is not generating enough income to sustain its services, so Delainey and Kevin have been tasked with systematically cutting each departments’ budget one by one.--The Friends. Both Josh and Delainey have some incredible friends. The loyal kind everyone wants in their circle to rally behind them, support them. Josie, Molly, Ethan, and Millie are very protective of Josh after what he went through, and Megan fiercely goes to bat when unfair judgements are made about Delainey. These side characters add depth and hints of complexity to the plot.--Delainey’s Consideration. In order to do her job justice and not entirely cripple the pediatric budget, Dr. Mackenzie demands Delainey relocate her office and change her dressuits and heels for scrubs and tennies, and work with the harried and ever busy nurses on his floor. Despite Delainey’s painful history with this floor, she agrees and does her very best to integrate onto the floor and understand the gross difference in her perspective from sitting on the sixth floor executive suite. At first, Josh and Delainey are more like adversaries, with Josh trying to keep every last penny of his existing budget, and Delainey tasked with cutting it…significantly.--Kevin. Just as Delainey describes, the frat-boy who puts his country club foot forward gets the worm. He is as incompetent as he is late, and cannot even do his job without depending on Megan to do it for him. When he sees an opportunity, he steals it.Avery’s House. Josh, Josie, and Ethan bought and renovated an old hotel and turned it into Avery’s House, a home-away-from-home for the patients of the pediatric floor. It was inspired by the loss of a childhood friend, and the three are giving back to the community in such a heartwarming way.--The Plan. Josh and Delainey devise a plan to help the pediatric budget, working hand-in-hand with some of the press that Avery House is receiving for all its contributions. The plan to plaster the community with positive media coverage of the pediatrics department seems like the best route to monopolize on investors for the pediatrics program.--The Catch. Like most workplaces, the hospital has a strict no fraternization policy, but working in such close proximity and long hours, Delainey and Josh progress from instant attraction to the simmering of feelings. When Millie provides a secluded weekend getaway for Josh, it is just what others capitalize on to destroy Delainey’s work.--The Divide. While Delainey is a working woman, she grew up in the home of the high-faluting. She saw how the prestige of her father’s position drove her parents’ marriage into the ground, and she was forced to attend all of the hospital fundraisers. Except this year is different…Delaney tried not to feel pathetic about being the only single-over-thirty person at the table, but it was a little sobering. Five years ago, she’d thought Echo Lake might be the perfect place to find her forever-someone. She hadn’t realized just how few someones were available, however. The Take-AwayThe entire story was heartwarming and about kindness, doing good for the pediatric floor. Delainey always kept that in mind, and she did her very best in a hard situation.Recommendation – Buy, Borrow or Skip?Buy or borrow, either way, it’s a sweet story with a lot of heart.

Working at Echo Lake's Mercy Hospital has always been a very rewarding experience for Delaney Blair, she loves the idea that she is doing her small part to keep the hospital running efficiently and the community healthy, and she simply couldn't imagine working anywhere else. But when her boss pulls her into his office and breaks the news to her that the hospital is struggling to make ends meet, and unless they find a way to trim costs people will be losing their jobs, Delaney starts to feel a little deflated, especially since the task of cutting costs falls on her shoulders. She has thirty days to get a new budget ready, or face the consequences of possibly losing her job along with a lot more of the hospitals employees. So, she comes up with a plan to start in the Pediatric unit, and see where she can cut some of their costs, and go from there...which puts in the path of a very handsome and oh so tempting Dr. Joshua Mackenzie. The minute Dr. Joshua Mackenzie hears that the hospital board is calling for budget cuts and they want to take funding from his pediatric program he is ticked. They are already running under staffed and barely making ends meets as it is, and now their sending some suit down from the sixth floor to run his departments numbers, and possibly take his funding...no way, he isn't having it! The minute he meets the suit though he knows he is in trouble, she is beautiful and determined to get what she wants, so he does the only thing he can think of to sway her decision, ask her to relocate to his floor for a week, and take a good look at how his department runs. She reluctantly excepts his offer, now he just has to hope that the more time she spends with the patients and staff, she will be persuaded to take her budgets cuts somewhere else...This was my second visit to this series and I have to say that I enjoyed this trip even more than the first. One paragraph into it and I was immediately pulled back into the small town of Echo Lake, and so happy for the opportunity to revisit some familiar residents, and also meet a few new ones too. The author does an amazing job of developing very relatable and likable characters that you can't help but get attached to. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Josh and Delaney, their story captured my attention right from the start and had me flying right through the pages, and staying up well past my bedtime because I could not wait to see how their story would end. Definitely one of my favorites in the series to date!!I highly recommend you add the Echo Lake series to your reading list, each story is well crafted, highly entertaining and filled with some very memorable characters that will leave you with a warm heart and smile on your face!I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book

I’ve had Heart Like Mine on my TBR list for awhile now. I finally got around to reading it, but sadly I was a bit disappointed. The general story line and romance was only okay. I enjoyed it more as a contemporary fiction than romance novel. The romance supposedly checked all the right boxes: lakes at sunset, handsome doctor who loves kids, great Italian food, etc. But it didn’t really draw me in that much. What did really pull me in was the eye opening experiences that Delaney had on the pediatrics floor. Forced to make budget cuts to the pediatrics unit, she is invited to spend time there by none other than Dr. Joshua Mackenzie. He wants her to really learn how important all the hospital services are to the sick children. Spending time on the unit, Delaney grows as a person and rekindles her passion for her career. I really enjoyed this story line.I also really appreciated the in depth justification of all the services and personnel required to care for the children. I think it will definitely open some people’s eyes.I wouldn’t recommend it for the romance, but Heart Like Mine ended up redeeming itself in the end.

There are quite a few typos in this text. For example.. ABC's of melanoma -- E is described as elevation (should be evolution); "caliper" motion is written as "caliber" motion (repeatedly). Can be confusing if you're learning the material from the first time from this text. If ordering this text, be sure to order the most recently printed as I believe they corrected many of these errors.

If you are hoping to get access to the online content with the purchase of the e-textbook, you will be disappointed. I paid $85 for the e-textbook on Amazon thinking I would be able to access the online videos; I was not. Then JB Learning wanted an additional $30 to be able to access the online content.

Great text for H&P, especially if you're using Shadow Health. The only thing missing is PEDS.

Includes helpful mnemonics and interesting practice cases. This is an easy to read and accessible introduction to History and Physical.

The book was clear and conscise with its ideas. It was easy to follow and understand. However, I felt that I was reading all over the place to find information pertinent to my class.

Has great videos that go along with the book

This is a great reference book. Just what I needed- easy to use and comprehensive. Received in pristine condition and super fast! Thanks!
