So glad I rented this from Amazon instead of buying. There really are no lessons in the book-- its just set-ups for assignments. Quite honestly, I used it for a class at my local tech and I think I looked at it 3 times and aced the class. I wouldve been ticked had I paid for the book instead of renting... So, since youll never use it as a reference once your class is over (since there is no how-to in it)-- if you can rent it though Amazon, I highly recommend thats the way to go. And they pay shipping both ways!
The book rental was fine, it's the book itself that is horrible. I hated how it was set up and it feels like it doesn't teach you anything.
I rented this book because it was required for an Excel class I was taking. It is not an instructional book, it only contains set-up problems for homework assignments. Be aware that there are many errors in the book, and if you don't know about them, the assignments in the book will not work out. You can download a word doc that lists all errors from the cengage.com website by googling "Excel Applications for Accounting Principles errata."
Renting this book for an accounting course this semester is so much cheaper than actually buying it new or from the school bookstore (which totals to $80 something and comes with Excel Quick.) I do not wish to keep these two reference books after completing this course, for those who have experience using excel, you can pretty much find most of the techniques mentioned in this book online somewhere too. I had to get this book for homework. Renting is definitely better than buying. BOOKS DO NOT COME WITH ANY CD'S/SOFTWARE. I am still using this book, so I don't know how the return for rentals would work yet.
The book is full of errors that need errata.
Used it for 2 classes, learned a lot, a little vague.
I had to buy this book for a class and it offers tasks but no explanation of the principles or how to do anything. Luckily I was versed well enough in excel to BS my way through this book. When I reached Pivot tables (an area I'm interested in improving) i was disappointed to see only very basic exercises which did not improve my understanding or mastery of the topic. You're better off googling and youtubing your excel quandaries.Edit: The book also omits any relevant Accounting concepts so I hope you saved your Intro to Accounting books
because the book is showing me different ways to handle the financial aspects of excel in a very short time
