I gave it three stars because maybe my expectations were too high. The book arrived on time and packaged nicely. I was hoping for a book that really delved into conspiracies and exposed hidden facts that would surprise me. What this book essentially is, is a list of a ton of known conspiracies and a very brief description of them. Seriously, like a paragraph with a basic overview of the "conspiracy". It was a big let down, but next time I will read more reviews and analyze the description before purchasing on a whim.
This is one ginormous book that covers pretty much ALL the major conspiracies & coverups on this planet. The Steigers give the background of several I'm familiar with & even more that I knew nothing about. However, since the number of conspiracies listed is so great, many are only briefly described, leaving me wishing for just a little more info. The book is well-researched but has numerous typos.
This is a worthwhile overview of the conspiracy literature, though it's not perfect. It's missing subjects like the USS Liberty attack and the Franklin child sex ring in Nebraska. It's also centered on Anglo-American cases (there is nothing about Gladio, the Dutroux human trafficking ring in Belgium, the assassinations of Aldo Moro and Olof Palme). Some articles are better written than others. Separating fact from fiction can be difficult. There are also too many entries about political groups (religious extremists, racist groups) that do not qualify as conspiracies or secret societies. But overall, there is a lot of information here and it's a good introduction to the subject.
This book is a wonderfully written encyclopedic work of mankind's secret societies and conspiracy theories. i don't believe the authors intended there to be a thorough discussion of all subjects mentioned...but rather an excellent starting point for the reader to conduct additional research.There are many topics I've never heard of in the book and I'm enjoying skipping around a.nd reading those first.Nicely written...Thank You!!
If you are looking for a listing of noted secret societies...both fictional and non-fictional...then this is your book. It is literally organized A-Z and lists each organization with a brief description. It does not delve any further into the underpinnings of such organizations or their function within the larger society.I would not waste the money, unless you are looking for a laundry list.
Very good work! I have read many conspiracy books, good and "out there," and this is great compendium, much like Vankin and Whalen's 80 Greatest Conspiracies. It has reasonable detail on well-known and lesser-known conspiracies and societies, is well-written with a nice bibliography. The tone is even-handed, which is an extra-plus. If you're willing to engage in critical thinking about the topics, or just want to enjoy learning about the topics, this will provide several hours of good reading.
This book desperately needs a spell check and a fact check. So much information and opinion is stated matter-of-factly. This is not a book that goes into the topic from an informational unbiased point of view. all in all, an ok read if you dont mind rolling your eyes every other page.
I haven't read the whole book but have found it informative and interesting so far. This would be a good book for people of most every age especially those who are finding themselves curious about the going ons in this world. Obviously something is terribly wrong with the way things have been going and you can't help but ask yourself why. Well keep searching, the truth is there even if it's not what you wanted to hear and what you wish wasn't the way it is. Good luck to all you seekers of truth. Don't give up!
